Online Photo Dictionary

Online Photo Dictionary website displays a set of thematic pictures (fruit, numbers, fast food...). The image can be explored by dragging the mouse on its different parts. The name of each item can be read and listen to.

Vidtionary

Vidtionary is described as a video dictionary, i.e. words are visually explained through pictures in a short video clip. The entries can be searched alphabetically, by topic, or according parts of speech.  It also includes some quizzes and wordless versions of the videos aimed at guessing the word.

Pronunciation dictionaries

Howjsay website provides the sound of English words in quite a quick way. Users write the word they want to listen to into a box, click on 'submit' and choose it from a list.


Dictionarist also provides a good list of English words with their corresponding pronunciation and translations to other languages.

Macmillan Dictionary (monolingual) includes audio clips showing the British English spoken pronunciation of the requested word.

Online dictionaries


Browsing through some classroom blogs related to EFL in Primary, in Blogging in Arteixo I've come across a reference to these two visual dictionaries:

- Sashi, a visual dictionary that combines Wiktionary content with Flickr images.
- Moving into English e-Glossary, a collection of terms with definitions, pictures and sentences managed by Hartcourtschool Publishers.

Moreover, the following resource is also mentioned: Howjsay, a practical pronouncing dictionary.
